TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-Transportation Minister Ignasius Jonan will inaugurate Bungkutoko Port in Southeast Sulawesi on Monday, May 2, 2016. The port was built since 2009 using the state budget of Rp204.217 billion.

“It will not start operation yet. Pending operation permit,” said Hemi Pamurahardjo, spokesperson of Transportation Ministry, Sunday, May 1, 2016. The port is situated at the mouth of Kendary Bay which connects the traffic from Kendari Bay to Banda Sea and vice versa.

Bungkutoko port is the largest hub port with deadweight capacity of 6,000 tons. In addition, the port can accomodate passenger ship with gross tonnage of 6,022 tons with considerable depth of Faceline.

Bungkutoko Port has been developed to compensate for Kendari Port’s issues of shortage of land for development, shallowing water, and narrow sailing path.

The construction of Bungkutoko port has taken into account the substantial growth of Kendari Port as shown by Berth Occupancy Ratio (BOR) of 79 percent; containerization growth of 7.79 per annum; goods traffic growth of 10.2 percent per annum and container traffic growth of 7 percent per annum.
