TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Sudirman Said revealed that the government would focus on developing electricity infrastructures at villages in Papua and West Papua provinces in a bid to realize the Bright Indonesia Program (PIT).
“The Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry will prioritize electricity infrastructure development in eastern Indonesia, including East Nusa Tenggara, West Nusa Tenggara, North Maluku, Papua and West papua,” Sudirman said during the launch of the Bright Indonesia Program in Maybrat regency on Thursday, April 21, 2016.
Sudirman added that most of the program budget would be distributed to Papua and West Papua.
“We have set a target to provide electricity infrastructures in Papua and West Papua within five years, so that people in rural areas can have electricity 24 hours a day,” Sudirman revealed.
West Papua deputy governor Irene Manibuy revealed that the majority of people living in West Papua rural areas had no access to electricity. Therefore, Irene said that the West Papua provincial administration positively welcomed the program initiated by the central government.
“We hope that the Bright Indonesia Program can be well-executed so that all regencies in West Papua can enjoy 24-hour electricity supplies,” Irene said.
