Ruwat-Rawat Borobudur to be Held Starting 18 April

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - `Ruwat-Rawat Borobudur`, an art and culture event, will be held on 18 April until 1 June 2016.


The event will present a number of programs; including people art festival, kirab budaya (cultural parade), and a people art performance and dance performance called kidung karmawibangga.


In addition, several other activities will also be presented such as a cultural discussion, a tourism seminar, an art and culture exhibition, and the procession of people’s tradition.


Sucoro, Head of the Ketua Warung Info Jagad Cleguk, which organizes the event, said that Ruwat-Rawat Borobudur is expected to raise people’s awareness about the importance to develop tourism in Borobudur Temple, which is located in Magelang Regency, Central Java.


"Every year through this Ruwat-Rawat Borobudur, we hope we can raise people’s awareness about the potentials of the temple that need to continue to be developed," he said in Borobudur Temple on Saturday.


People who care more about the historical and cultural values of the temple, he said, will contribute to the development of local cultures that is an important part to develop Borobudur Temple.


Besides, he added the government is currently preparing to establish the Borobudur Tourism Authority Board (BOP) that will be tasked manage Borobudur Temple in the future.


The plan to establish the agency is part of the efforts to make Borobudur Temple a major international tourist destination.
