TEMPO.CO , Jakarta -Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama or Ahok is optimistic that the reclamation of 17 islands off the coast of Jakarta Bay will continue on unimpeded because the government has legal grounds to go on with the project.
"As long as we have proper legal standing, I don't see no reason why the reclamation must be stopped," said Ahok in Jakarta on Thursday, April 7, 2016 .
According to him, the legal grounds for the reclamation is outlined in the City Regulation No. 8/1995 on Reclamation and the Zonation of Jakarta's Northern Coastline - as such, Ahok plans to continue to debate the issue with the Jakarta's Regional House of Representatives (DPRD).
"There is no need for further lobbies. I have sent them the draft, and everything is quite clearly outlined in the draft - the obligations of the developers, and other issues that had been demanded by the Jakarta Administration," said Ahok.
