TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR) Ade Komarudin said that the decision made by the Golkar party to support the administration of Joko Widodo-Jusuf Kalla is a ‘common thing’.

According to Ade, the party has never been an opposition party.

"It’s not usual for Golkar to become an opposition party. The pasty was not established to become an opposition party,” Ade said on Sunday (31/1).

Ade said that the party’s ideology is in accordance with the name of the party, Golongan Karya (functional group). It means, he added, members of the party should be function and work oriented.

"Members of Golkar should function to bring prosperity for the Indonesian people,” he added.

For the record, Golkar has declared that it would support the government and it previously in the Red and White Coalition (KMP), the opposition side, along with the Great Indonesian Movement (Gerindra) Party and the Social Justice Party (PKS).

"The task of criticizing (the government) is not Golkar’s task. We don’t have the ability to criticize,” Ade said, adding that if forced to become an opposition party, Golkar will become a loyal opposition, meaning that the party would not be fully opposed to the government.
