TEMPO.CO, Depok - The students of University of Indonesia (UI) are disagree with the campus’ decision on banning the counseling program for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) held by Support Group and Research Center On Sexuality Studies (SGRC) of University of Indonesia.

Based on Tempo’s report and interviews at the University of Indonesia on Monday, January 25, 2016, most of the campus’ students are fine with SGRC’s programs even when website melela.org shares stories of different sexual identities openly.

"I’m fine with SGRC," said Desasari, a Russian Literature student at Humanities Faculty 2012, today, January 26.

Desasari admitted that the existence of LGBT community at UI is still controversial. "But SGRC’s concern is on sexuality problem in any measure," she said. According to Desasari, the community is really helpful for the students with sexual problem, so she disagrees with the limitation of the community’s programs.

Another student, Aisyah Rahima, also from Faculty of Humanities at the campus, stated the same. She said SGRC is a place to share and care about sexuality matters. "Campus doesn’t need to forbid [it]. There is nothing wrong with such community," she said.

Aisyah also said that sexual preference is someone’s private matter, so, others do not have right to intervene. "I’m okay with that," she said.

Aisyah even admitted that she has LGBT friends at her campus and they can get along well without discrimination. According to her, LGBT is not a threat for anyone else. "Campus cannot take care of one’s private concern," she said.
