TEMPO.CO , Jakarta -Commission of AIDS Prevention (KPA) of DKI Jakarta Province Rohana Manggala said that HIV/AIDS is still considered as "humiliating" disease. Therefore many people have the risk to be contaminated by HIV/AIDS but are reluctant to have themselves checked. Even some have been contaminated but are unwilling to take any medication.
"There are still stigma and discrimination towards People with HIV/AIDS (ODHA)," said Rohana in a talk-show held by KPAP DKI Jakarta to welcome World AIDS Day on Suropati Park, on Sunday, November 29.
According to Rohana, the discrimination from neighborhood around makes someone feel scared and ashamed to merely check whether he/she is contaminated by HIV/AIDS or not. Moreover the nearest neighborhood doesn't give any support as there's stigma towards this disease.
