TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo has called for the de-escalation of tension in South China Sea dispute. He also urged related sides to stop activities that can lead to the escalation of the tension.
Jokowi delivered the statement at the 27th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
According to Jokowi, countries near South China Sea must prioritize the spirit of cooperation and he believed that the spirit of cooperation would be better than the spirit of disputes.
“I believe that none of us wants instability in South China Sea,” he said.
Jokowi also hoped that countries involved in the South China Sea dispute respect the prevailing international laws.
"Negotiation of the Code of Conduct must be accelerated. In addition, Declaration of Conduct must be implemented wholly and effectively,” he added.
