TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Environment and Forestry Ministry plans to shorten the time required to process waste management license from five days to only one day to be more effective and efficient.

“As public servants, we want to give the best services and provide ease in taking care of waste management permit,” said Tuti Hendrawati, director general of waste management and dangerous toxic material at the Environment and Forestry Ministry, on Thursday, November 19.

The statement is in response to businessmen’s complaints on facing difficulty in gaining permit to manage such waste.

According to Tuti, with this policy, there will be no more reason not to manage and report industrial waste. “There will also be no more fee. If there is, then it is illegal,” she said. As a form of bureaucratic reform, the ministry will improve services to the public and implement integrated services, online reporting system and barcode manifest to realize effective and efficient licensing.

Tuti did not deny that processing waste management license has been difficult. This caused calo, or illegal middlemen, to offer help to companies to process licensing. “Unfortunately, these calo have no understanding on required documents, making it longer to gain license,” she said.

Tuti said if businessmen can fulfill all required documents, they can do it themselves. So they can monitor the process from home or office. “Because we already have online system.”
