TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said Jakarta had not entered rainy season despite rain had poured down in the past few days, the agency said Friday, October 9.
“Rain that occurred the past few days is a convective phenomenon," says Head of BMKG Andi Eka Sakya after signing an MoU with Antara New Agency on Friday.
The symptoms, Andi said, occurs due to long periods with hot temperatures for days and even months. This heat causes evaporation of water and steam to gather and form clouds. Clouds with water vapor is then blown by winds and cause rain.
"In two or three days, this situation will go on and then it will be hot again,” he said.
BMKG predicted Jakarta to experience rainy season starting mid-November 2015. However, beginning of the rainy season is not the same in other areas in Indonesia.
Indonesia has 342 weather season zones and differences in the onset of season could reach six months, Andi said.
BMKG also provide predictions for the two provinces that are hit by forest fires, South Sumatra and Riau. Rainy season in the South Sumatra region is expected to fall later than expected, in October. While BMKG predicted Riau to experience the rainy season at the end of October.
