TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-State-owned Electricity Company PLN has planned to allocate the majority of its state equity participation (PMN) to build power plants.

“Sixty percent of the state equity participation that amounts to Rp 10 trillion (US$714.2 million) in 2016 will be used to build power plants,” Nasri Sebayang, the director of construction and renewable energy at PLN said on Wednesday, October 7.

Nasri added that the rest of the fund would be used to build transmissions. The company was assigned by the government to build 10,000 megawatt power plants as a part of the 35,000 megawatt electricity program.

“Next year we will commence projects which contracts have been signed,” Nasri added.

Earlier, government initiated a 35,000 megawatt electricity project that would need 291 power plants, 732 transmission systems, and 1,375 main stations. The project was predicted to cost US$72.9 billion.

Currently, PLN owns 28 percent of the project comprising 102 power plant projects with a total capacity of 9,945 megawatts. Private companies had been assigned to build 110 power plants with a total capacity of 25,584 megawatts.
