TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Maurin Sitorus, general director of housing finance at the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR), said at least 1.5 million of civil servants have no home.

In his address during the coaching for housing finance system in Makassar, Maurin said civil servants are too satisfied with credit dominated by consumptive sectors

`PNS (civil servants) must be persuaded to take housing loans (KPR) that are turned into long-term investment. This is where South Sulawesi BPD plays its role,` said Maurin on Tuesday, October 6.

Maurin said Village Consultative Agency (BPD) of South Sulawesi should distribute KPR through the liquidity facility of housing finance.

On the other hand, Bakti Harun, head of South Sulawesi Spatial Planning and Housing Agency, said his agency targets to improve the qualities of 1,000 houses per year and it has now entered its third year. The agency has also begun easing the licensing for certain sectors.

He said that the governor has issued circulars to regencies and cities to follow Home Affairs Minister’s instruction regarding the ease of licensing.
