TEMPO.CO, Yogyakarta- Dozens of delegation from various countries attended the Global Organization of Parliamentarians Against Corruption (GOPAC) forum in Yogyakarta this morning. The bi-annual event is held without the presence of GOPAC President Ricardo Garcia Cervantes. `He is sick,` Chief Committee Nurhayati Ali Assegaf said on Tuesday, Oct 6.
Nurhayati explained that this year’s GOPAC forum is participated by 107 parliament members from 74 countries. The event will be held for three days starting Oct 6 and is the 6th event after the previous forum held two years ago in Manila, Philippines.
GOPAC is a cooperation of world parliament members whose duty is to eradicate corruption. The forum is established by 170 parliament members and 400 supervisors based on the Ottawa conference mandate held in October 2002. GOPAC headquarter is located in Ottawa City, Canada.
According to Tempo’s observation, GOPAC delegations start to crowd Kasultanan Ballroom in Ambarukmo hotel. All participants will be staying in three different hotels that are located close to one another, which are Eastparc, Sheraton and Ambarukmo.
