TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A number of faction at the House of Representatives have prepared a strategy to revise Law No. 17/2014 on the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR), House of Representative (DPR), and the Regional Representatives Council (DPRD), and the Regional Consultative Council (DPD), laso known as the MD3 Law. The factions look forward to make changes by regulating that DPR speaker must be appointed from the faction that has the highest number of legislative seats.

Secretary of the People's Conscience Party (Hanura) faction Dadang Rusdiana, said on Wednesday last week that the amendment will be made to maintain the institutions’ integrity. Pro-government party coalition had agreed to revise the MD3 Law after the National Mandate Party decided to align itself with the government.

PAN's move is expected to allow the pro-government coalition to achieve the 50 percent plus one requirement to allow the amendment.

The plan has received increasing support following DPR Speaker Setya Novanto’s unscheduled meeting with Donald Trump. The pro-government coalition’s strategy to revise the MD3 Law will be covered in this week's edition of Tempo weekly news magazine.
