TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo is scheduled to inaugurate the release of Indonesia’s first Equatorial Satellite LAPAN-A2 / LAPAN-ORARI in Bogor on Thursday, September 3.
The LAPAN A2 satellite launch will be conducted at the Technology Center of the National Institute of Aeronautics and Space (LAPAN) in Rancabungur, Bogor Regency.
The successor of the LAPAN-TUBSAT or also referred to LAPAN-A1, that was assembled in Germany, LAPAN-A2 is a entirely Indonesian made.
LAPAN-A2 has three main missions, that is, earth observation, ship monitoring and amateur communications.
The micro satellite will orbit near the equator, which will more cross Indonesia for more often, every 1.5 hours.
This satellite has a camera with a resolution of 4 to 5 meters, with a swath width of different units (3.5 to 9 kms).
LAPAN is set to launch the LAPAN A2, using India’s PSLV-C23 rocket in October 2015, from Sriharikota space station in India.
