TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Executive Director of the Institute For Development of Economics And Finance Enny Sri Hartati hoped that the new economic policy packages that the government is set to launch next week would be really formulated correctly in order to accelerate economic growth.
According to her, concrete and responsive measures are needed because these days there are no supporting economic factors that can ease current economic slowdown.
"Now there are no supporting factors just like during the 1998 crisis,” Enny said in Jakarta on Saturday, August 29.
Those factors are among others the high price of commodities. During in the 1998 crisis, she said that the high price of commodities could boost incomes and ease the decline of people’s purchasing power.
Another factor, Enny said, was the resilience of micro, small and medium enterprises at that time that made people purchasing people, especially among the poor, could be maintained and accelerated the recovery of economic growth.
The third factor was reform done by the third Indonesian President B.J. Habibie, who added the number of industries.
"Now those factors are non-existent,” she added.
"We hope that those policy packages to be launched next week are not only good on the surface,” she concluded.
