TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Aryanto Yuniawan, a local filmmaker, successfully produced 2D animation film entitled "Battle of Surabaya", stealing giant animation studio Walt Disney’s attention.
The production of Battle of Surabaya lasted for three years at the Yogyakarta College of Information Management and Computer Science (STMIK AMIKOM). Aryanto, who is also a professor at the STMIK AMIKOM did not expect that Walt Disney would be interested in his film.
“We are very grateful. We set up the studio with only eight people,” Aryanto said at XXI Epicentrum Jakarta on Tuesday, August 18.
According to Aryanto, Walt Disney was amazed with his team’s hard work to produce the film and offered technical assistance to distribute the film overseas under specific terms and conditions.
“If the film was to be screened overseas, Disney wanted the film to be English-spoken. The soundtrack would also be in English. Characters’ names such as Musa, Yumna and Danu would also be changed,” Aryanto added.
Aryanto explained that the process of movie dubbing had been completed in Singapore. After being released in Indonesia, the production house MSV Pictures will hold another meeting with Walt Disney.
Battle of Surabaya is an adaptation of historical battle in Surabaya on November 10, 1945. History recorded that it was one of the largest battles in the world. Among voice casts in the movie that will be released on August 20, 2015 are local actors Reza Rahadian and Maudy Ayunda.
