Cepu Block Calm Following Unrest

TEMPO.CO, Bojonegoro - Around two thousand workers at the Cepu Block oil well project in Banyu Urip Field, Bojonegoro, East Java, went on a rampage and damaged a number of company facilities on Saturday, August 1st, 2015.
Workers burned five cars, damage checkpoints posts and glass windows at the office buildings of the Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC)-1 Banyuurip, Cepu.
Because of the unrest Tripatra-Samsung subcontractor workers are off work for one week.
Hundreds of impatient workers were agitated when they had to queue for their lunch boxes under the scorching sun in one line, when usually there were two-line queues. The unrest started when other employees who wanted to get their lunch early were prevented from leaving work before their lunch hour.
One hundred personnel from the Bojonegoro Police were deployed to contain the situation, in addition to personnels from the Vital Objects Security and East Java Police Mobile Brigade. By Saturday afternoon the condition was under control.
Earlier, ExxonMobil Indonesia confirmed reports of unrest in work area EPC 1 Banyu Urip, Field, Cepu Block. Vice President of Public and Government Affairs ExxonMobil Indonesia Erwin Maryoto, explained that the incident involved the security workers and subcontractors around 11:30am on Saturday.
The police will mediate between the company, workers and the Government of Bojonegoro. The three parties will meet on Monday, August 3, 2015.
