TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of Maritime Affairs Susi Pudjiastuti, expects that fishery export this year can reach US 5 billion dollar, reports said Friday, July 31, 2015.
"Hopefully, export value can reach 4-5 billion dollar," said Minister Susi said at her office on Friday.
Susi claimed that the number follows US call on removing import cost for Indonesian fishery products.
"Amid economic issues, Indonesian fishery sector has scored an important deal with US market," said Director General of Fishery Processing and Marketing (P2HP) of KKP, Saut Hutagalung, on Wednesday.
Previously, US President Barack Obama has signed an extended term of the Generalized System of Preference (GSP) on Monday, July 27, 2015. GSP is a scheme that urges developed countries to offer mutual deal with developing countries. “Indonesia earns GSP facility," said Saut Hutagalung.
"This is a good opportunity for Indonesian exporters as the scheme can help fishery products such as frozen crabs, sardines, frogs, canned fishes, and lobsters," he said.
