TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bank Indonesia (BI) calls on banks to meet this year's loan ratio target for micro-small-medium enterprises (MSME). National banks are given until the end of 2015 to reach a loan ratio of five percent.

The central bank's MSME Development Department director Yunita Resmi Sari said that as of June 2015 there are banks that have not met the targeted credit ratio.

"The number is less than 20 percent of the total banks," she said yesterday without specifying which banks they are.

By next year, BI wants MSME loan ratio to reach 10 percent. The central bank also targets a 15-percent ratio by 2017, and 20 percent by 2018.

BI director for macroprudential, Yati Kurniati, said banks will be entitled to incentives if they can meet the ratio target sooner than expected.

On the other hand, banks that fail to disburse MSME loan with a five percent ratio whilst recording a non-performing loan (NPL) of more than five percent will be given a disincentive in the form is current account reduction.

"The disincentives policy will take force in February 2016," said Yati.

Sigit Pramono, chairman National Commercial Banks Association (Perbanas) said that a loan ratio of 20 percent by 2018 is difficult to achieve for certain banks. He said that not all banks have capacity and expertise to disburse loans to MSMEs.

According to Sigit, optimizing the MSME sector is best done by state-owned banks only.
