TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Women Empowerment and Children Protection Minister Yohana Yambise, has established a regional protection commission to reduce violence against children.

The commission, which has been operating in several regions, is responsible to handle complains on the regional level, such as in East Nusa Tenggara and Rembang Regency, Central Java. "The funding of this protection system is taken from underdeveloped village funds," said Yohana on Tuesday, June 30, 2015.

Based on the commission's data, most of the received complaints were related to physical and sexual violence against children. Yohana claimed that the commission has succeeded in reducing cases of violence against children.

However, before establishing the commission in all regions across Indonesia, Minister Yohana said that further studies are necessary. One of the importantd studies is mapping the regions where child violence cases often occurred.

Violence against children has become a prominent issue after two children were found abandoned by their parents in Cibubur, and after an eight-year-old girl named Angeline was murdered in Bali.
