Jokowi Yet to Decide Funding for Political Parties

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Presidential communication team member Teten Masduki said President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has not discussed the plan to increase funding for political parties proposed by the Home Affairs Ministry. The proposal has now ben retracted by Home Affairs Minister Tjahjo Kumolo.
“The State Palace has not discussed the funding for political parties yet,” Teten told Tempo via a text message on Monday, June 29, 2015.
Teten neither did confirm when Jokowi will discuss the proposal draft nor his stance toward the the funding for political parties.
Earlier, Tjahjo confirmed that he would not continue the discussion over the funding for political parties with the House of Representatives and the Finance Ministry.
“Some political parties and House members refused government’s help. The Corruption Eradication Commission also voiced its objection,” Tjahjo said on Sunday, June 28, 2015.
Tjahjo said that his institution will focus on dealing with simultaneous regional heads elections. The ministry has decided to allocate the fund to social and religious organizations to empower local communities.
