Minister Rachmat Visits Surabaya Markets to Monitor Prices

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Trade Minister Rachmat Gobel, along with East Java Governor Soekarwo, conducted an inspection on Saturday, June 20, 2015, at a number of markets in Surabaya to monitor the price of basic necessities.
According to Rachmat, the increase in the price of basic necessities is still acceptable.
“Prices of a number of basic necessities are relatively stable, and food supplies in East Java will be sufficient,” Rachmat said.
Rachmat added that public should not be concerned with food supplies during Ramadan and Eid day , since the price hike was insignificant. During the inspection, Rachmat asked several vendors about the price of basic necessities.
At Wonokromo Market, the price of IR 64 rice was around Rp9,800 and Rp11,000 per kilogram. Sugar’s price was set at Rp12,000 per kilogram, and vegetable oil was sold for Rp11,000 per liter. Beef and chicken were sold for Rp98,000 and Rp29,000 per kilogram, respectively.
