TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Berkley University Rector Liartha S. Kembaren claimed that Tourism Minister Arief Yahya was one of the university's alumni after completing a doctoral program in management.

"I don't really remember the exact year. I think it was in 2000s. He took a 2-year program," Liartha told Tempo on Tuesday, June 02, 2015.

According to Liartha, Arief was serving as a high-ranking official at PT Telkom. Arief was on the list of the university's graduates while he was serving as the General Manager of West Java Branch Telkom, along with House members Kamarudin Watubun and Lili Asdjudiredja, former North Sumatera Police Chief Insp. Gen. Hadiman, and Former Central Java Police Chief Alexander Bambang Riatmodjo.

Earlier, Research, Technology and Higher Education Minister M. Nasir inspected the Indonesia International Management Institute (LMII), affiliating with the University of Berkeley Michigan, located at Menteng, Jakarta. Nasir revealed that the LMII had no permit to issue university diploma.

Liartha said that all names listed on the LMII's website had completed Berkley PhD programs, although she could not remember the dates of their graduation.

"It's been a long time. Our campus had been relocated three times," Liartha said.

Liartha also revealed that she was still communicating with former North Sumatera Police Chief Hadiman, who pledged his support for the university amid the case.
