TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Political, Legal and Security Affairs Minister Tedjo Edhy Purdijatno has confirmed that President Joko Widodo rejected House of Representatives' (DPR) proposal to revise Regional Elections Law.

Tedjo said the proposal was rejected because the law had not been in use yet. "Yesterday, the president already said that that proposal was rejected, so the existing law will be used," said Tedjo on Tuesday.

House leaders on Monday met with Jokowi to persuade him to revise the regional elections law. Tedjo said Jokowi already told the House about the rejection.

The House sought to revise the law so that two conflict-torn parties, the Golkar Party and the United Development Party (PPP), could participate in regional elections.

Home Affairs Minister Tjahjo Kumolo said Monday the government no longer focused on revising laws, but rather on budget liquidation.

According to Tjahjo, the election budget that has been planned by the government in not in line yet with the one proposed by the General Elections Commission (KPU).

Commenting on the possibilities that the PPP and the Golkar Party may not participate in the elections due to their issues, Tjahjo called on both parties to abide by the KPU's regulations. "There is already a mechanism, so just use that," said Tjahjo.
