TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) said that the recent execution to several foreign nationals would not affect business climate in Indonesia.

KADIN Deputy Chairman Hariyadi Sukamdani said that protests staged by several countries are only political issues.

"The political protest will only last for one or two months only. It won’t affect the business climate," Hariyadi told Tempo on Saturday.

For the record, protest for the execution was staged when Indonesian Transportation Minister Ignasius Jonan visited the Netherlands on Thursday and Friday. Dutch Minister of Infrastructure and Environment Melanie Schultz van Haegen pulled out of an investors’ forum, where both ministers were scheduled to meet.

According to Hariyadi, the protest would not affect the business players in the country as they would be pragmatic and would not mix business affairs and political affairs.

Hariyadi further said that the Netherlands and other European countries would be at loss if their business relations with Indonesia is disrupted because Indonesia is a very big market.

"In addition, economic growth in European countries, including in the Netherlands, is now slowing down so focus has now shifted to Asia, including Indonesia,” he concluded.
