TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Home Affairs Minister Tjahjo Kumolo, who also serves as the deputy chairman of the National Police Commission (Kompolnas), said that Kompolnas will evaluate the National Police officials in connection with a decision to arrest Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigator Novel Baswedan.

“We will conduct an evaluation so that Kompolnas can supervise and provide inputs for National Police leaders,” Tjahjo said after attending IPDN Expo at Jatinangor, West Java, on Saturday, May 2, 2015.

According to Tjahjo, Kompolnas members will hold a meeting at Puncak, Bogor, to discuss the conflict between the National Police and the KPK.

Novel was arrested on Friday, May 1, 2015 for skipping police questionings in relation to a physical abuse case against a bird nest burglar back in 2004. Novel, who at that time served as the head of crime unit at Bengkulu Police, was accused of abusing and killing one of burglars. During a case reconstruction held on Friday, Novel reportedly shot three burglars. Novel refused to undergo the reconstruction since he was not at the location during the incident.

Tjahjo asserted that he would not allow any intervention during the investigation into Novel’s case. Tjahjo also said that he was seeking a solution to settle the squabble between the National Police and the KPK and called on both institutions to work hand in hand in enforcing the justice.
