TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Tax Service Department have yet to confirm how much tax could be obtained from boarding house taxes because boarding house is categorized as hotel tax.

“We are still recording and combing the tax,” Head of Jakarta Tax Service Department Agus Bambang Setiowidodo told Tempo on Tuesday, April 21. In the taxation system, boarding house is included in hotel tax. “We should sort it first.”

Agus said that he has not been able to calculate the potential tax lost from boarding houses. “We haven’t been able to calculate it because we do not have an exact data on the number of boarding houses,” he said.

The potential tax lost can be calculated when the number of potential tax is revealed and how many that did not pay. “Then we can reveal the lost,” said Agus.

Agus said his department is collecting records on taxpayers and boarding houses. “The record is in the sub-office. We are trying to gather it,” he said.

Agus also request the cooperation from various parties to collect boarding house records in Jakarta. “This requires the cooperation of everyone. There are many taxpayers who did not register,” he said.

According to the data from the Tax Service Department, last year’s hotel taxes reached Rp2 trillion. Boarding house tax is included in it.
