TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – President Joko Widodo in his opening remarks of the Asia-Africa Conference (AAC) commemoration at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) on Wednesday, April 22, 2015, has called on Asian-African countries to take part in a collective effort aimed at addressing issues of global violence, including radicalism.

“We have to work together to deal with global violence, radicalism, including ISIS,” he said.

In his speech, Jokowi highlighted the conflicts raging in Islamic countries, and that Indonesia would initiate a meeting with member countries of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) on the sidelines of the Asian-African summit to seek viable solutions to radicalism.

“Indonesia initiates an informal meeting with OIC member countries to find solutions to conflicts besetting the Islamic world. We have to join forces to create both external and internal security,” he said.

The president also underscored the significance of sea security to safeguard trade traffic, and appealed to Asian-African countries to refrain from violent acts in resolving disputes. “These tasks and challenges are what we have to discuss during the AAC,” he said.
