Divorced Women More Likely to Have Heart Attack

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Divorced women are exposed to greater risk of heart attack, even if they have another marriages, new study by researchers for Duke Medicine, United States, revealed.
According to the study, a woman who went through two or more divorces are twice more likely to have heart attack compared to those with more stable marriage. One of the researcher and research author professior Matthew Dupre, Ph. D said that the research is one of the first to look into the cummulative effect of the divorce in long-term base. The researchers found that it could leave an eternal trace on public health.
Although it is not statiscally significant, divorced women are more likely to have heart attack than the men. Risk of heart attack on divorced men are equal to those who are still married. However, after two or more divorces, the risks may increase for men.
The study, which is published on the Circulation: Cardiovascular Quality and Outcomes journal, also reported that men who get married again after the divorce, would have better chance than the women.
