TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned oil and gas company PT Pertamina (Persero) plans to introduce a new fuel product on May. The new product, which will have a 90 octane rating (RON), is set to be part of Pertamina's transitional step to erase the RON 88 Premium fuel.

"The new product is better and more environmentally friendly," said Ahmad Bambang, Pertamina's Director of Commercial and Marketing through a text message on Thursday, April 16, 2015.

Ahmad said that the new product will have better quality compared to Premium but will not be as good as Pertamax. Ahmad however, refused to mention the new product's name and its price.

For the initial phase, the new product will be sold in certain gas stations in Jakarta, Surabaya, Semarang, and several other major cities in Java.

Nevertheless, Ahmad said that Premium will continue to be sold under the condition that it can only be purchased by public transportation, and will only be available in gas stations on the outskirts of major cities.
