TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – President Joko Widodo is slated to come to the House of Representatives on Monday, April 6, 2015 for talks with lawmakers on multiple strategic issues, including his proposal on the National Police chief candidate and the 2015 revised state budget plan.
“I heard the president would come with the vice president and several other related ministers,” House deputy speaker Agus Hermanto told Tempo on Sunday, April 5, 2015. Among the ministers are Justice and Human Rights Minister Yasonna Laoly and State Secretary Pratikno.
The Democrat Party politician said the first consultative meeting with the president would be attended by House speaker and their deputies, the chairman of the House commission overseeing legal affairs, faction leaders, the House’s Household Affairs Committee (BURT), and the House’s Budget Committee.
The meeting is scheduled to take place at 10 a.m. in the Pustaloka Room at Nusantara IV Building.
House lawmakers summoned the president in light of the latter’s decision to replace Comr. Gen. Budi Gunawan with Comr. Gen. Badrodin Haiti as the National Police chief hopeful. The House asked the president to shed light on his decision to scrap Budi’s nomination and to revise his letter that had failed to mention the results of Budi’s pretrial hearing that annulled Budi’s status as a graft suspect.
Agus said should lawmakers find the president’s explanations satisfactory, they will proceed with the processing of Badrodin’s nomination. “If there’s no problem tomorrow [today], the legal commission will process the nomination by forming a special committee and carry out the test,” he said.
