TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Presidential Chief of Staff Luhut Binsar Panjaitan, said that one of the agenda that will be carried out during the Asia-Africa Conference (KAA) is reading a statement of support for Palestinian independence. The draft of the statement is still being discussed at the United Nations headquarters in New York.
"The independence of Palestine is Indonesia's proposal because it is the promise of President Joko Widodo," said Luhut on Tuesday, March 31, 2015.
Luhut said Indonesia is concerned with supporting the independence of Palestine and its full UN membership.
The Foreign Affairs Ministry is currently lobbying the UN to pass the draft as one of the KAA official agenda. Luhut said not all countries in the Conference would agree to the proposal. However, he had high hopes that the draft could be passed by the UN.
