TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Thousands of fossils taken from Semedo site, Tegal, Central Java, will soon rest at the decent place after being stored at the houses of surrounding residents for ten years. Semedo Site Museum is set to be built this year to store the fossils.

“First stage of Semedo Site Museum construction will commence this year,” said Afifudin, the Secretary of Tegal Tourism and Culture Agency on Friday, March 27.

The cultural heritage site, stretches across Perhutani’s Forest Management Unit (KPH) land in Pemalang, was found in 2005. At least three important fossils from the site has considered crucial in discovering new horizon for pre-historical research.

According to Afifudin, Rp10 billion of the state’s budget is allocated for the first construction stage. The museum will be built on one-hectare land at the slope of Semedo hill.

“According to the MoU, the government of Tegal Regency will only have to provide the land and road infrastructure toward the museum,” Afifudin said.

Souvenir kiosks will be constructed around the museum gate in the second stage. The museum is said to be ready for tourists by the end of 2016.

At the moment, more than 3000 artefacts and fossils from Semedo site are stored and displayed at the house of Dakri (58 years old) in Semedo village. Dakri has never charged people who crowd his house to see the fossils during weekends.
