Jakarta to Host Islamic Finance Global Forum

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bank Indonesia (BI) will host the Islamic Financial Services Board (IFSB) annual forum in Jakarta from March 31 to April 2. Dadang Muljawan, Bank Indonesia's chief of economic development ant sharia financial division, said the forum will discuss the development of sharia financial industry.


"The IFSB is an organization that formulates the international standadrs of sharia financing," he said in Jakarta yesterday.


This year, BI governor Agus D.W. Martowardojo was elected as the IFSB Chairman. BI spokesman Tirta Segara said three-day forum event will be filled with a series of meetings and seminars.


According to the Financial Services Authority (OJK), the market share of sharia bank in Indonesia only reached 4.85 percent last year, just shy of the five percent target set by the regulator. OJK sharia banking director Achmad Buchori said the industry experienced a slow growth last year due to economic challenges and turbulences.
