TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The governmentis planning to add the number of countries whose citizens can make short-term visits to Indonesia without a visa. The policy is decided upon the bud to boost foreign exchange revenues.
Minister of Tourism Arief Yahya said on Monday that the government will list 21 more countries whose citizens can enter Indonesia for free. The twenty one countries include all European countries and some American countries.
According to Arief, the no-visa policy will increase the number of visitors to Indonesia by 150,000 people per country, giving an additional state income of US$1 billion.
There are currently 15 countries whose citizens can enter Indonesia without a visa. Indonesia recently decided to add citizens China, Japan, South Korea, Russia and Australia to visa waiver list. The policy is waiting to be put into effect.
