TEMPO.CO, Surabaya - Wisnu Sakti Buana, the chairman of the Surabaya chapter of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), said on Thursday, March 12, 2015, that he was waiting for the party’s central executive board to nominate him as the Surabaya mayor candidate in the city's 2015 election.

Wisnu added that he could yet confirm whether Tri “Risma” Rismaharini would be nominated as a mayoral candidate. However, Wisnu said that the party might issue a recommendation for Risma.

“Whatever the recommendation is, we will honor the [PDI-P] chairperson’s decision,” Wisnu said.

The PDI-P is the only party nominating a mayoral candidate bereft of a coalition with other parties. According to Wisnu, the party will discuss the candidacy in a working meeting slated for the end of this week.

In contrast with Wisnu’s statement, Sukadar, the PDI-P faction chairman at the Surabaya Legislative Council, said the majority of PDIP branch executive members opposed Risma’s candidacy. According to Sukadar, Risma had failed to show her contribution to the party.

“We won’t beg for Risma’s willingness to be nominated,” Sukadar said.
