TEMPO.CO, Sydney — The Indonesian Consulate in Sydney is dazzled after a blood-like substance has been smeared over the front gates of the building in an apparent protest against the imminent execution of Australians Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran.

A consulate staffer discovered what looked like a pool of blood at the front gate early this morning and called state and federal police, along with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s Diplomatic Security Branch.

Consul Akbar Makarti told The Daily Telegraph that CCTV footage showed what appeared to be a woman with up to 10 balloons filled with the blood in front of the consulate just before 10:30 p.m. last night. The woman was seen placing the balloons on the ground and stomping on them.

Consul Makarti said that the attack was most likely in protest over the execution of Bali Nine pair Chan and Sukumaran, who would be transferred from Bali to the island jail where they would be executed in the next 48 hours.

The consulate has received thousands of emails, letters and phone calls from Australians protesting the execution of Chan and Sukumaran, Mr Makarti said. However, he added that the act of vandalism “wasn’t the right way to go about getting their attention”.
