TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Everton became the only Premier League club remaining in the top-16 tier of Europa League. Playing on home ground Goodison Park, Everton defeated Young Boys (Switzerland) 3-2, 7-2 in aggregate.
Two Belgium internationals contributed to the victory. Striker Romelu Lukaku scored a brace in the first half. His Belgian compatriot Kevin Mirallas added another goal, also in the first half.
Everton, upon making it to the top 16, save Premier League’s reputation, as Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur were kicked out after losing at the same night.
Liverpool lost in a penalty shootout against Besiktas, while Tottenham Hotspur surrendered to Fiorentina.
