TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Syafii Maarif, the presidential fact-finding team (known as team 9) chief said that he was not concerned with the fact that President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has yet to carry out the team’s recommendation over the conflict between the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and the National Police. According to Syafii, his team is patiently waiting for Jokowi to take a concrete action to address the issue.

“What’s important is that we have provided [the president] with our recommendations and public knows that,” Syafii said in Yogyakarta.

The former chairman of Indonesia’s second-largest Muslim organization Muhammadiyah believes that Jokowi is waiting for the right momentum to carry out the team’s recommendations.

“My advice to the president is that he must act immediately to meet people’s aspiration,” he said.

In the same time, Team 9 member Hikhamanto Junawa viewed that Jokowi is planning to take a firm action over the conflict. He is convinced that Jokowi has his own ways in addressing a problem.

“Do not underestimate President’s intelligence. We believe that he has what it takes [to address the problem] and will make a best decision,” Hikmahanto said.

Hikmahanto added that Jokowi should be given a space to prepare the best decision to address the conflict between the KPK and Polri.

“It’s not just about two conflicting institutions, but also a state affair and the future of corruption eradication efforts,” he added.
