TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A number of people who are opposed to the execution of two Australian death-row drug convicts Myuran Sukumaran and Andrew Chan, staged a rally in Denpasar, Bali yesterday.

The rally that was coordinated by the Mercy Champaign demanded President Joko Widodo to grant clemency to the two convicts.

They distributed posters to the street users passing by Renon area and stickers with a pink heart-shaped picture bearing the writing: “Keep hope alive, sign the petition to save Myuran and Andrew.”

Geoff Collins, one of those involved in the rally said that the rally was not only done in Denpasar but also in a number of cities in Australia.

"We think that what the two have done have shown changes in attitude so they deserve to receive clemency,” he said.

He also said that both convicts even shared their skill to teach inmates.

In the meantime, an activist and also a religious figure named M.A. Mirdjaja said that both convicts had repented and had been sentenced to 10 years in prison and said that death sentence is not necessary.

"Everyone has rights to live,” he said, adding that he hoped President Joko Widodo would have a dialog about this issue.
