TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Deputy Chief Bambang Widjojanto said that he was ready to attend the pretrial lawsuit filed by Comr. Gen. Budi Gunawan.

“At every institution, there must be a troubled individual. What’s more important is how to make the problems [at the institution] to be under control,” Bambang told journalists in Surabaya on Saturday, January 31, 2015.

Bambang said that Judge Sarpin Rizaldi would lead the pretrial with integrity. Therefore, Bambang added, strategic efforts need to be initiated to minimize the potential of authority misuse.

Sarpin Rizaldi is the single judge who will lead the Budi Gunawan’s pretrial lawsuit against the KPK. Sarpin had been reported several times to the Judicial Commission when he was serving as a judge at Medan District Court for allegedly taking bribes when handling cases.

Sarpin had been probed at the Jakarta High Court when he led a narcotics trial and collateral confiscation case in land procurement for Jakarta Outer Ring Road project.

Earlier, the National Police filed a pretrial lawsuit with South Jakarta District Court over KPK’s decision to name Budi Gunawan as a suspect in a graft case.
