TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Syrian military personnel has killed 66 guerrilla fighters across the country, reported the Syrian state-owned news agency, SANA, on Tuesday, January 27, 2015.

Government troops have killed 35 'terrorists' at the beleaguered town of Sheikh Miskin, in Daraa province in the southern part of the country, as reported by SANA.

It is known that the Al-Nusra Front group, which has been linked to al-Qaeda, have intensified its' attacks towards Sheikh Miskin, due to its' strategic position in southern Syria.

In addition, Al-Nusra fighters have recently took over control of a military base near Sheikh Miskin, which forces the Syrian army to intensify its' attacks on the militant group's strongholds across Daraa province, according to the reports of several activists in the region.

Separately, at least 15 guerrillas were killed on Tuesday in a bombing carried out by the Syrian army at the rebel-held town of Douma, which is located near the Syrian capital, Damascus, reported SANA, as quoted by Xinhua.

Syrian forces have also killed 16 foreign mercenaries throughout a qualitative mission in the towns of Nahla, Sheikh Youssef and several other locations in the province of Idlib in Northwest Syria.

More violence have broken out after a representative of the Syrian opposition is scheduled to meet a representative of the Syrian government in Moscow, Russia, to set the pace of a Syrian peace dialogue, which aims to resolve the long-standing conflict in the war-torn nation.
