TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - After making its high-end smartphone Xperia Z water-resistant, Sony is releasing its new Sony Xperia M2 Aqua with similar feature to compete in the middle-class market. The anti-dust and water-resistant phone is offered at Rp3.3million.
After experiencing the phone, Tempo found that M2 Aqua is not much different from its predecessor Xperia M2 except, of course, for its water-resistant and anti-dust features. The IP65/68 certificate the phone had acquired means that it can be taken to a swim in a pool and use it for taking underwater picture.
However, Sony make it clear in a caution to not plunging the phone into the sea, as it is not designed to cope with salt water. In addition, certain applications such as Facebook or WhatsApp will not work normally underwater because the touch screen is also not functioning when it touches water.
Nearly all parts of the body is constructed of plastic, make it less elegant in appearance. It is lighter though, weighing only 147 gram. M2’s LED light is still featured on the M2 Aqua but it cannot be personalized.
The Xperia M2 Users are not necessarily upgrading to the M2 Aqua since both has very similar specs. Same 4.8-inch screen and 540x960 pixel resolution too. The only thing different is that the M2 Aqua can stand 1.5-deep underwater environment for 30 minutes.
