TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Louis van Gaal finally gave Victor Valdes a debut in tonight’s clash against Cambridge United. Valdes’ inception in the line-up certainly gives David De Gea a time to rest, after spending a string of tight fixtures.

Valdes’ debut, however, is also a sign for De Gea to brace against the possibility that the former Barcelona goalkeeper can take his post.

Back in his heyday, Valdes was a key player in Barcelona, helping the club achieve six La Liga titles and three Champions League cups.

Speculations are rife that Valdes will be United’s number one goalie, especially if De Gea decides to swap Manchester to Madrid.

However, Van Gaal is unlike Sir Alex Ferguson, who trust age before beauty under the goal post, as past evidence shows Ferguson’s preference toward Peter Schmeichel, Fabien Barthez, and Edwin Van der Sar.
