TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Jakarta Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama said he would rearrange the operating areas of bajaj, the capital's iconic three-wheeled taxis, in Jakarta.
“It’s frustrating to see bajaj transporting passengers from Pluit to Manggarai,” he said on Wednesday.
To monitor their operating areas, Ahok said, he would make bajaj painted in different colors.
Previously, Ahok said he would replace old bajaj vehicles, which bore 2-stroke engines, with electric-fueled bajaj as the former were deemed unfit for use and polluted the air.
In the future, bajaj drivers must join a cooperative or company so that the management is clear.
Ahok added that it was impossible to stop bajaj from operating in the capital, allowing for its numerous alleys. "Bajaj drivers even sometimes carry expectant mothers," he said.
