TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Army deputy chief of staff Lt. Gen. M. Munir has hinted the government’s plans on amalgamating the military and police academies in the future to avert future clashes between both armed institutions.

“In the future, the cadets will [train] together,” the three-star general said when opening a Yong Moo Do tournament in Balikpapan on Wednesday, December 17, 2014.

Munir said the frequent clashes between the Armed Forces (TNI) and the National Police (Polri) have become the government’s concern, adding that the Army’s headquarters had recorded at least seven fights between soldiers and policemen that either claimed lives or caused material losses.

Munir hoped the planned merge would instill a sense of solidarity in the would-be officers. “These young officers should be able to control their subordinates in the future,” he said.

Munir added the TNI and police headquarters were still designing the concept of the joint education and that the new system would hopefully be applied beginning the next academic year.
