TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) secretary general Jafar Siddiq said it was impossible that Jakarta Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama would convert to Islam.

"That's hipocrisy. If he indeed converts to Islam, FPI and the people of Jakarta will recognize his gubernatorial status," said Jafar on Tuesday, December 16, 2014.

Jafar's comment was in response to Ahok's recent statement that the latter agreed to the Islamic concept of rahmatan lil alaamin, or literally translated as blessing for all mankind.

Jafar said there must be a hidden agenda if Ahok ended up converting to Islam. "Take a look, his wife is church activist. He is Chinese and he hates Islam," said Jafar.

When asked for comments on Jafar's statement, Ahok said he did not take the mockery seriously. "People say having a thousand friends is less and having one enemy is too many. As for me, having 50 enemies is fine because I already have many enemies," said Ahok.
