Ahok Interested in Acquiring SOE Ministry Office

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama welcomed the idea to buy State-Owned Enterprises Ministry Building offered by SOE Minister Rini Soemarno.
“We are interested [to acquire SOE Ministry building], as long as the Jakarta Legislative Council agrees,” Ahok said at Jakarta City Hall on Tuesday, December 16, 2014.
Ahok said the building acquisition would benefit the Jakarta administration, but has yet decided the utilization of the building. However, Ahok mentioned that the government can utilize the building for whatever cause.
“It could be a people’s mall to roof street vendors. That would be great,” Ahok added.
Earlier, Minister Rini said that she was planning to sell SOE Ministry Building to cut the ministry’s operational expenses. According to Rini, the current 22-storey building was too large for 250 staff.
Rini admitted that she had offered the building to the Jakarta administration and discussed the plan with Finance Minister Bambang Brodjonegoro.
