TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) has prepared 400 rubber boats to anticipate flooding during this year’s rainy season.

However, Jakarta BPBD Head Bambang Musyawardana said that the number of boats available is not enough given the many places in Jakarta that are vulnerable to flooding.

"We hope we can have more boats, such as the ones from the army,” said Bambang.

For the record, rain in Puncak, Bogor on Friday evening left several areas in the capital inundated such as Kampung Pulo in East Jakarta and Petogogan in South Jakarta.

Bambang also predicted that several other areas in Jakarta would also be affected by floods.

BPBD, Bambang said, actually has 500 rubber boats but some of them are broken and cannot be used.

"So we only have 400 rubber boats that can be used. In addition to prepraing rubber boats, we are also preparing a team ready to help the floods’ victims. The team consists of 200 personnel,” Bambang said.
